About me
Charles W. ‘Bud’ Little attended college on an athletic and academic scholarship at Azusa Pacific University. He graduated Magna cum Laude with a double major in English and Sports Medicine. In graduate school he majored in Journalism and Communications, at the University of La Verne, graduating Summa cum Laude. He was named ULV's Outstanding Graduate Student.
At La Verne, he received multiple honors including the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism’s Gold Crown Award, and was chosen an Associated Collegiate Press All-American. While in graduate school, Bud's work was selected by New York's Museum of Modern Art as part of an installation featuring print design. Bud began his professional career as a magazine writer and editor, where he covered sports, health, and science and technology issues. His credits include ESPN, Muscle Digest, and senior writer at the Energy Research Institute, Cogeneration World, and a number of local newspaper and radio outlets.
He has served as a design and journalism education consultant for numerous organizations including The O.C. Register, General Dynamics, Sullivan Corp., Brignole Fitness, American Sports Network, and a host of colleges and universities, including; The University of Oregon, The University of Washington, The University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Louisiana State University, Kansas State University, Howard University, and Cal State Fullerton.
In 1986, Bud began his career as journalism professor and publications adviser at Santa Ana College. Since that time, student publications have enjoyed great success, winning18 Associated Collegiate Press National Pacemaker Awards — considered the Pulitzer Prize of collegiate journalism.
Bud is most proud of the more than 300 former students that hold full-time positions in print, broadcast and emerging media ranging from The Los Angeles Times, The Orange County Register, The Washington Post, USA Today, People Magazine to Rolling Stone, and online media such as E! Entertainment, AOL Time Warner, NPR, and Patch.com as well as multimedia giants FOX, ESPN, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Universal.
Four of Bud’s students have won the prestigious National College Designer of The Year Award. Several of his former students have distinguished themselves professionally, winning multiple Golden Mike and Emmy Awards, and numerous Society for News Design global honors.
In 1997, The College Media Advisers, Inc. awarded Bud the National Distinguished Community College Adviser Award. He has been honored multiple times with the Rancho Santiago Community College District's President's Award and the city of Santa Ana awarded him its Outstanding Educator. He has been honored numerous times by SAC for innovative curriculum and excellence in education.
Bud was selected as Santa Ana College's Distinguished Faculty Award recipient in 2000.
The University of La Verne named Bud one of its "Top 75 Graduates" at its Diamond Jubilee Celebration.
Bud lives in Corona with his wife Jean. He is an avid cyclist and runner.
