This six-column graphic was one I offered to various newspapers as a freelance project back in 2009. I think I had three customers. I pulled the idea out of mothballs and offered it to our sports folks for use with the jump of our Super Sunday stories. You can easily see how games were runaways in the 1980s and early 1990s but then became a lot closer with the turn of the century. The 35-point winning margin in the 2014 Super Bowl was really an anomaly. I’m wishing I had offered this one to more papers — especially after how close this year’s score was. Feb. 1, 2015.
