I love the U.S. flag from both the esthetic and the historical standpoints. My fascination with the flag goes back to my childhood, when my grandfather would pull out a 49-star flag that he had bought. It was very rare. The peg here was the 50th anniversary of admission of Hawaii as a state. But rather than recap Hawaiian history, I decided to look at the history and placement of the stars in that famous blue field.
