Houston gets half its shipped goods through the port of Houston. But Dallas gets only 2 percent — nearly three-quarters of the goods shipped to Dallas land in Los Angeles and then get railroaded to their destination. With the widening of the Panama Canal, there is an opportunity to change this. Dug Begley walked me through the entire case for expanding the port in Freeport, Texas. In hopes of making this easier to follow for readers, I structured this collection of diagrams as a five-point case. Despite the size of the graphic, our desk managed to find a nice color position for it.
