This was the fifth anniversary of a giant crash between a metro commuter train and a freight train northwest of Los Angeles. Twenty-five people were killed, including the Metrolink engineer -- who, it turned out, had been texting a teenager waiting at a station up ahead. The engineer was planning to let the boy run the train. While texting, the engineer missed a stop signal. I added a list of other incidents involving mass transportation and cell phone/texting use to try to tie this into the bigger issue. Sept. 12, 2013
