Earlier this year, when I did a timeline history of the battleship Iowa -- which is now a floating museum in San Pedro, not far from Long Beach -- I noticed we had the 70th anniversary coming up of when President Roosevelt sailed to historic conferences in Africa aboard the ship. With the help of the curator of the battleship museum, I pulled together five interesting factoids and then built a timeline of the trip, based on Roosevelt's appointments diary, which has been posted online by the FDR museum in New York. The lead art was also an "exclusive" for us -- the museum just recently got its hands on that photo. Best part of the page: The curious case of the destroyer "Willie D." Check it out if you can. This is twice I've written about the Iowa. I really need to make the time to get over there and tour the ship. Nov. 12, 2013.
