I kept hearing from whiny Democrats about how the House was wasting time voting 40 times in an unsuccessful bid to repeal Obamacare. My question: Has it really been 40 times? And were all the votes unsuccessful? I was under the impression they were chipping away here and there and had, in fact, gotten some traction. So I started searching. Almost immediately, I found a Washington Post "fact checker" story that, sure enough, debunked the "40 votes" thing. But the story didn't list all the votes, and come of the citations were wrong. It took me two days to a) track down all 40 votes, b) find out what, specifically, the votes were for, and c) what the actual count was for that vote, broken down by political party. As you can see, only six votes have been taken to repeal the whole thing. And seven votes were not only approved by the Senate but also Obama himself signed them into law! So much for the whining. Many of the descriptions I used did come from the WaPo wire story. Probably the most complex piece I've done yet. Two solid days of research, but I think it was worth it. Aug. 12, 2013.
