The aim was to explain the origins of California's car/freeway culture and address why locals call their highways "the Five" and "the 101" and so on. The peg here was the 50th anniversary of when the legislature renamed many of the highways. I showed the goals of the legislation, a timeline history of California's highways and the before-and-after effects on the road map. California was where they first started using white-on-green highway signs. That's in the bit at the lower right. The whole thing was set off with a wonderful file shot by staffer Ken Steinhardt.
