A fine example of updating throughout the night, and with a pair of hot stories for a Sunday paper. I was AME/news and Sundays at the time and worked with our front-page editor that night, Kasey Doshier, to shape this page. We started the night with the obligatory sequence of photos from the more-fatal-than-usual air-show crash. Then the miners story started to gain steam. Since we combined our early editions into one for Sundays, our midnight deadline gave us ample time to get the "Miners alive" hed on the page. By final edition, we'd deepened the strip to fully blow out the story, killing our competition on the racks in Westchester and preserving the three-shot air-show sequence.
