Seeking Assistant Design Editor in Charleston S.C.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning Post and Courier is looking for a talented designer to produce front-page work and manage a team of visual journalists responsible for producing pages for newspapers, magazines and special publications.

The right candidate will be an exceptional designer who can demonstrate the ability to work in a highly collaborative environment and set expectations for his or her team. In addition to the daily routine, this person may also be called upon to illustrate feature stories, produce magazine covers or set style for new products. We’re looking for experienced candidates, preferably in management, with proficiency in Adobe InDesign, InCopy and Illustrator. There will be night and weekend work.

A growing, independently owned news organization based in beautiful Charleston, S.C., The Post and Courier offers a break from the cost-cutting (at all costs) recent history of corporate-owned media companies. Our local owners have deep roots in the community and care deeply about this newspaper and its reputation. This is still a place where reporters are called reporters and editors are editors, but rest assured we are aggressively pushing every digital boundary you can imagine. No idea is too crazy or too big.

(Oh, yeah, did we mention you’d be living minutes from the beach and in a city Conde Nast recently ranked as the best small city in the U.S.? There’s that, too.)

If you have the skills and experience to measure up, send a cover letter, resume and portfolio to Production Editor Betsy Miller at bmiller@postandcourier.com. We are an equal opportunity employer and drug-free workplace.
