Hello everyone--
The Star-Ledger is looking for a news page designer. I've pasted the description below. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
-- Joe Hannan
The Star-Ledger, New Jersey’s largest newspaper and the 16th largest paper in the United States, is seeking an innovative news page designer to deliver high-impact, engaging section covers.
New Jersey has a fast-paced news cycle that never slows; and a knock-down, drag-out political climate. For decades, readers have relied on The Ledger to make sense of it all. As a Ledger news designer, you would create pages that instantly inform and captivate.
We are looking for someone who is a journalist and storyteller at heart with top-notch design skills. This designer will push beyond creating daily and advance section covers and pitch ideas for explainer graphics, charts, special sections and alternative story formats. This designer should be a news fan, who is well-read and comfortable with working alongside reporters and editors to craft his or her presentation.
Interested in more than just news design? Great. In addition to creating The Sunday Star-Ledger’s Page 1, this designer will work on covers for The Ledger’s Arts & Escapes and Perspective sections.
The ideal candidate should have:
> At least two years of experience
> Talent for visual storytelling in print and online
> High-level graphic design and typography skills
> Strong communication skills
> Ability to collaborate with editors, reporters and photographers
> Illustration skills are a major plus
