Graphic Artist wanted

GateHouse Media's ever-changing and growing Center for News & Design is located in the vibrant community of Austin, Texas., and is part of a long-term effort to offer a range of content services to GateHouse newspapers.
 
We are seeking a hands-on graphic design artist to help elevate our products’ visual presentation for daily and weekly publications throughout the country.
 
This position requires at least 3+ years of professional experience working in newspaper graphic design operations. Design clips or links to online portfolios are required from all applicants.

 
The graphic design artist’s duties include:

• Planning and producing dynamic and engaging daily and long-term visual journalism and storytelling, including both complex and routine graphic elements, maps, charts and illustrations
• Offering and executing creative graphic solutions to content presentation
• Collaborating and facilitating effective and constructive communication with local editors across the country and center colleagues to continually improve our publications’ content-driven visual presentation
• Implementing and ensuring consistent design standards for quality and accuracy are met, as well as ensuring that content publication follows both local newsroom and GateHouse specifications

 
The graphic design artist must:

• Have a keen understanding of visual journalism and have a solid foundation of graphic design, page design, typography and content-driven layering of information
• Have a thorough understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite
• Have a dual skill set in both newspaper graphic design and editing
• Be a true multitasker, able to handle curveballs on hard deadlines
• Be a true team player, able to interact proactively and productively with dozens of colleagues while helping to build team morale
• Be able to generate and implement creative ideas swiftly, as well as helping to refine and improve ideas from the team
