The Durango Herald, a family-owned daily newspaper in spectacular Southwest Colorado, seeks an experienced Design and Graphics Editor for its daily newspaper.

About you: You have a penchant for clean, organized, sophisticated page design, you can produce a graphic or map quickly, can conceptualize and illustrate a story, and maybe contribute a headline here and there. In exchange for loads of creative freedom, you self-start and work autonomously just as well as you can collaborate and offer creative solutions to the news gathering and presentation processes. You are proficient in the Adobe Creative Suite and confident and skilled enough to be the newsroom leader when it comes to visual presentation.

Please email letter, resume, references and design samples (or a link to these samples) to Senior Editor Amy Maestas, amaestas@durangoherald.com. We will start reviewing resumes immediately.

Seriously folks: Give this one some thought. I've designed at the Miami Herald, Hartford Courant and Corpus Christi Caller-Times and the Durango Herald has been, by far, the best newspaper experience I've had. Creative freedom galore. I'm shuffling over to be the A&E editor--writing, editing and art directing -- my dream newspaper job. Otherwise, I wouldn't want anything else. Truly a gem of a position. Oh, and the town is to die for.
