Designing around modular advertising

Hey guys - 

Just want to throw something out there - I'm about to start designing a financial annual that's going to have a modular advertising (fixed-scale blocks), that tend to eat up a lot of space, and are going to be on virtually every page.

Anyone who knows what I'm talking about know they're annoying and eat up a lot of page space, and there's going to be a lot of it. Can anyone give / show me examples of good page design that's featured this kind of ad layout?
