We looked at a lot of options for the photo page on the back of our 9/11 10-year anniversary special section. But as the prototypes progressed, these two photos continued to speak volumes. We kept it simple: 2,977 people were killed in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, 6,230 U.S. service members in the war on terrorism as of 9.11.11. Headlines work separately and in combination.
