The Tennessean is looking for a Visual Coach who will work with reporters, photographers, videographers and producers to create high-quality and compelling visual content for multiple platforms. They will help journalists fulfill the newsroom’s overall visual strategy and encourage independent planning and self-direction.
The Visual Coach should have experience on how illustration, art direction, graphic design, photography and videography can be applied on our digital platforms. They will guide journalists by consultation and coaching before, during and after the creation of content. The coach sometimes takes a hands-on approach to accelerate a story’s path to publication.
The coach will also focus on growing the visual storytelling skills of the entire staff across platforms.
Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree that emphasizes visual communication or equivalent in experience and education; five years of media management experience; experience with advanced visual storytelling techniques on multiple platforms; experience editing and shaping watchdog and investigative journalism from a visual standpoint. Experience as a photographer, videographer, designer or illustrator is preferred.
