The Design Studio at the Tennessean in Nashville seeks a collaborative, customer- and employee-focused manager with strong print design skills and emerging digital design skills for the position of Creative Director.

The Creative Director is responsible for elevating the visual presentation of the products of 12 Gannett newspapers in the southeast, including The Tennessean, the Jackson (MS) Clarion-Ledger and the Fort Myers (FL) News-Press. The Creative Director must motivate, develop and challenge a staff of 60 to be creative, collaborative and bold.  The Creative Director also must encourage editors at the 12 newspapers to develop bolder presentations, while respecting the uniqueness of each editor's market and audience.

An awareness of digital design trends and the ability to raise staff experience in digital design is important. A successful candidate will have a record of showing initiative and working with minimal supervision as the Creative Director's supervisor, the Design Studio Director, has responsibilities with the Design Studio in Des Moines, IA, as well.

A successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in design management in a print publication setting, ideally with exposure to multiple formats, including newspaper, magazine and digital.  Exceptional design skills, especially at the conceptual level; strong leadership skills and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, supervisors and customers are critical.  Experience working with support departments such as Human Resources and IT is important.
